We Need Your Help - Children's Assessment Center

The Berrien County Council for Children believes that child sexual abuse is a community problem. We see approximately 400 children each year and past experience has taught us that no single agency can possibly meet all the needs of sexually victimized children and their families. We are committed to providing a coordinated, multi-disciplinary team approach to investigating, treating, and prosecuting child sexual abuse. It is our goal to provide programs and support services for child victims and their families which enable them to heal emotionally and physically, regardless of their ability to pay. Your financial support can help us turn the nightmare into healing.

Here's how we work:

We bring together, in one place, professionals from law enforcement,Children's Protective Services, the Prosecutor's Office, medicine, and mental health -- all working together in one child-friendly center. The CAC keeps the child at the center of coordinated, child-sensitive assessment and care. And eases the pain. The result: A child tells his or her story one time, to one forensically trained professional in one child-friendly environment. The interviewer asks non-leading, developmentally appropriate questions to allow the child to tell their story. We take it from there. The healing begins immediately.
